Spot Cooling Systems, Inc. recommends that you take the following steps outlined by the manufacturer of Port-A-Cool® units to winterize your unit before you store it away for the winter.
The first step is to drain all water form the sump tank and clean, ensuring that the pads and sump are completely dry.
Secondly, clean out the in-line strainer. Remove the spray bar and clean out any debris.  Re install after cleaning.
Thirdly, Disconnect and roll up any electrical power cords and any hoses so that they will not be trampled on, tripped over or caught in equipment.
Finally, cover  your unit completely to prevent dust build-up and store the unit in a dry area.  This also helps prevent damage to the pads for longer pad life.
